I don't know if you know this, but I'm now a movie critic. Like most of my "jobs" (or "expensive hobbies" if you ask our accountant), this one comes with no paycheck. I just gave myself this job-- right now-- because I realized this is my blog so I can talk about whatever I want. I figure--hey, I like movies and I like to criticize. So (drumroll), I am now a movie critic! And while I'm at it, I might be a book critic and food critic sometimes, too!

Tonight, we saw Valentine's Day. We did NOT see this on Valentine's Day because I didn't want to fall for the gimick--I'm just not that kind of movie critic. Though on our V'day date out, we watched "Laurie" from the early seasons of OC Housewives and her very rich and dapper husband George walk into the gimicky movie while we walked into the non-gimicky one next door. I always liked her.
Anyways, tonight we broke down and saw it, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked this one. Michael didn't quite as much. (He's my Ebert.) The kinda bad reviews and overly stacked cast led me to lame expectations, but I thought it interweaved the characters and story lines well, while managing to avoid heavy heart-shaped cheese wheels. One story line is a major tearjerker--well, two if you count what they did with Bradley Cooper's character. (Bradley is my "Edward." sigh)
I thought it was entertaining and cute, and kept some plot lines more wholesome than you'd expect from H'wood, which was refreshing. Jennifer Garner's "waitress" scene made me want to pump my fist-you go, girl. But the major lesson I will take away from this movie experience is to NEVER see a 7:00'ish PG'ish movie at the Krik here in good ole SC, because you will inevitably be seated amidst 100 or so 7th graders who while sitting in the theatre seats, have absolutely no intention of actually watching the movie their moms paid for them to see. Though they all howl in unison when any character from "Twilight" graces the screen. To be expected.
And lest I forget, food critic moment!!! Tried out the new "Shore" tonight, because the new "Nick's" had too long of a wait. Two thumbs up/four happy plates or whatever rating critics give for a mostly great restaurant. Excellent service, perfectly crunchy caesar salad (because that matters), and UNBELIEVABLE "Memphis BBQ pork sandwich with coleslaw and home cut fries." This girl's from Memphis, so I can tell ya--they did it right, if not better. Michael's ahi salad--so-so, so he says. Maybe he was just in a mood tonight, or something??
