What a Good Mom

Alex and I were in the car discussing how one of our friend's kids had been in an accident and had to go to the hospital. This led to a discussion of our family's injury list and past hospital visits: Alex-"nursemaid's elbow" at one, stitches at a year and a half, and concussion at eight, Gavin-broken leg at 18 mos., Blake-the third kid, so just lots of butterfly bandages and skin glue...

In this conversation, I realized aloud that all of our kids' major medical "incidents" had happened while they were not in my care, but under supervision of Daddy, a babysitter, or a friend. I then had the audacity to exclaim that I must be a pretty diligent parent to prevent such accidents. At this point, I caught my daughter's face in the rearview mirror, where she was rolling her eyes.

"What?" I asked.
"Well...it's just that you think you're such a good mom because none of those injuries happened when you were around."
"Yeah? So?"
"Mom, where were you?"

  1. Such a smart girl! I remember the elbow incident. We were all there it just happened that daddy plays rougher. I also remember a distraught mommy.
