Well enough about Blake! I just remembered I am the mother of three others--four, if you count Michael. Besides the ever present antics of Blakester, everyone else is alive and...tan. We've had some nice weather, and today featured a couple of moments while staring at the (8-foot) crashing waves, and soaking up the sun in which I thought, "Doesn't get better than this."
Michael is thriving in India (and so are the mosquitos)! Thanks for asking. :) He is working daily with his developers, and is very impressed by their skill set and knowledge. He visited a very interesting place called the Rock Garden (will post pics soon), and plans to visit the Taj Mahal early next week. We feel very blessed that everything seems to be moving along so far, so good with his new business venture.
Alex is spending her 9-3 this week at Camp Broadway Bound. She will be playing a "Sorority Sister" in a "Wicked" play. I am amazed daily by how incredibly helpful and responsible she is, and tonight she took on an additional role to her usual mini-Mama. Poor thing kind of became my mini-spouse. We do get to Skype with Michael everyday, but with the time zone difference and shrieking insistence of certain toddlers I know to dominate the video conference with animal noises and "funny" faces, it's not enough. So tonight I found myself engaging in adult conversation with her about a work project I'm doing and some other stuff, and I was taken back at how--adult--her responses were. I had that first "My daughter's my best friend" moment. She hits the double digits next week, but I know her soul age is well beyond her years.
Gavin has immensely enjoyed his week at chess camp! Yup. I'm serious. Not making it up. He's our little chessmaster, and proud of it. Once, I mentioned to a relative he was going to an after school chess program and they thought I was joking. (Most of our relatives' extracurriculars involve heavy padding and under Armour.) But seeing as Michael doesn't encourage Gavin's Broadway ambitions, instead, we're aiming for Princeton. And all those people who laugh now can apply to work for him later. I've always liked the nerds. And to his defense (family), he also plays basketball, soccer, baseball, takes taekwondo and is on the swim team. So there.
Blake is busy saying funny things. And showing me his own adaptations of math facts and "the butterfly and bweath strokes" while swimming four-year-old "laps" along side the big kids. And begging me every night at bedtime to scratch his back while I sing a song about the mailman.
And little Gracie is the woman of the week!! She has stayed COMPLETELY dry (including night time) for SIX DAYS IN A ROW!!! As if that weren't enough, she ALSO mastered the art of clipping into her own car seat! I am officially retired. Wow. Soooo proud of her, and she is the absolute joy of our home. She still radiates a lovely essence that keeps our hearts full.
And me? Doing the usual nothing of course. Juggling a lot o' crazy and a little readin', writin', and 'rithmetic (i.e. crunching numbers to see how much Ben and Jerry's I can ingest without working out). Just finished a book with some of the best writing I've ever encountered: "The Gathering" by Anne Enright. Heavy story, brilliantly told. And just started a riveting page turner (so far): "The Anatomy of Peace" (arbinger institute). My house is paying for it in filth, but just heard about a book that teaches you how to get your kids to really work (The Parenting Breakthrough-?), so not for long!!
And we're all wishing summer wasn't cruising by so fast...
