Viva la Italie!

"A dream is a wish your heart makes ..." Thanks to my 3-year-old daughter's infatuation with Cinderella, I have this song down pat. And this fall, after some gentle prodding (and begging and pleading, and yes, there may have been some tears), I finally convinced my husband that it was time for my dream to come true.

Ever since I was first introduced to lasagna as a toddler, I have dreamed of Italy. A country that makes the best food and fashion in the world must be the best country in the world to visit, right? A country that proffers the mantra "La dolce vita" must really offer the sweetest things, am I wrong?

With each passing year of marriage, and amid our growing careers and growing babies, the dream didn't go away but pulsed louder. "Under the Tuscan Sun" didn't help. "Eat, Pray, Love" really didn't help. If they can do it, why can't I? Oh yeah. Because currently we have a rapidly diminishing savings account as we build a business, and there are four kids to feed. But reason has never stopped us before.
