With its cozy, post-holiday, stay-in-and-hibernate sentiment, January is the best month to have a baby.
But it’s the worst month to have a birthday.
January babies know that most of their gifts will be the stuff their friends recently unwrapped and didn’t want. And if they’re lucky, these discards will be handed over with a “Happy Birthday” sharpie note written onto wrinkled red and green paper with a half-eaten bow. Let’s hear it for the Capricorns!
But this January 6th, my son turned six -- his golden birthday! And this marked the on-year of our every-other-year party rotation. So even though I was a little spent from all that holly jollying, I was determined to make my boy’s day shine.
