My daughter Alex was once asked to sing the Star Spangled Banner at a 5k run for charity. This surprise invitation resulted in a victory lap around the house, hug the mailman, drop to the knees and reach for the sky moment - from me.
Alex was eight and looked at me like I was nuts.
Realizing she had not grasped the gravity of this opportunity, I lunged for Youtube, proclaiming, “We gotta watch Whitney sing it!” She shrugged and said, “Who’s Whitney?”
