Book Review-The Help

The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

Read it, devoured it, couldn't put it down. Same sentiments from the other 15 or so women from my book club tonight who wanted to hug Aibileen, applaud Skeeter, belly laugh with Minny, and slap Miss Hilly.

The southern diction is dead-on accurate, and the characters are so real, multi-dimensional, and completely endearing and lovable (when they deserve it). As my good friend Nicole said, "I'm dreaming in black lady!" This is an outstanding first novel for the author. If she never writes another thing, I think she did the world a favor with the self-check she offers readers in this work.

For me, this book would rate among my top five. Which list (if you're curious) would include The Glass Castle, Embraced by the Light, Lovely Bones (hated the movie), Bird by Bird, The Peacegiver, Left to Tell, I Don't Know How She Does It, The Notebook...okay, I guess I have more than five.

READ THIS BOOK! (Although if you're a mom, you may need to hire HELP to do it.)

  4. Of course, Miss E. I'll send it over along with some help for ya, wouldn't want Charlotte to starve. And then I've got another one for you after that. Just read "Hunger Games" yesterday, that one will make you ignore the world.

  5. Don't worry. I've read both hunger games and catching fire. Yes, I spent 4 days straight letting the laundry go, dishes pile up and children starve... ;)

I'll be calling to come by for that book!
