'Odd Life of Timothy Green' harvests heart, humor and hope

Movie Review: as published in print and online at www.ocregister.com on August 15th, 2012:

While the magic of Timothy Green's leaf-sprouting legs will effectively enchant young viewers, the core story of Disney's "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" will find its home in a parent's heart. Gripping in its raw exploration of one childless couple's loss and insecurities, yet balanced with perfectly tender moments of sweetness and hilarity, this engaging tale with a spot-on cast is a must-see for family movie night.
Reminiscent of heartwarming (and at times, breaking) films like "Simon Birch" and "E.T.," "The Odd Life" uses a fish-out-of-water framework to dig deep into a very real struggle for many families: infertility.

Jim and Cindy Green (Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Garner) are childhood sweethearts who painstakingly realize they must surrender their dreams for a biological child. A fantastical rainstorm sprouts them a muddy surprise in the form of a 10-year-old boy who emanates every quality from their dream list, including their chosen name: Timothy.
Garner and Edgerton exude flawless chemistry and wonderment at their dream-come-true child. And relative newbie CJ Adams is absolutely mesmerizing; his wide-eyed, warm-hearted Timothy sparkles, filling his onscreen world and family with resilient joy.
As insta-parents, the Greens stumble in their presuppositions of child-rearing as they experience paradigmatic insecurities...
